growing pains

Sometimes you want to be in the mood
for a good time and instead all you want is
a cup of tea and a book of poetry.
Tonight was one of those nights.

I have been in a reading frenzy.
(writing too)

I cant seem to stop.
I love it.
Also I have drunk more milk in the past week then in the whole 6 months before.
Its like when I was a young girl with gangly, long legs. As they grew they would ache and I would drink milk and lay with them extended high into the air. Sometimes my mom would rub them.
It helped.
Maybe this is just another kind
of growing pains.

the things that fall away, new work

I have been thinking lately about change
and how with it undoubtedly must come an aspect of loss.

As time passes we change and grown and leave things behind.
Some we choose to leave and some are taken from us without our permission.
But it doesn't have to be mournful.
Instead we can look the loss and the growth
both squarely in the eyes
smile
accept
and let it go.
And then turn your head
look forward
and see what other beauties
life has in store for you.

regrowth, death, and a happy halloween

I know that fall is not usually a time to think about growth and regrowth. Traditionally its more a time of death, of one season passing away while the world gets ready to rest and prepare itself for the cold winter ahead.
But lately
the cold and the death and the rest
that seem to blanket the whole world this time of year
all make me think of the growth and the life
that will come from that rest.
This rest and
the death of a few things
is necessary
for the life of all the rest.
I am looking forward to this
mandatory hibernation
that I feel coming on with the cold.
And I am looking forward
to waking up from it.

Hope you all have a
marvelous Halloween
weekend.
