thoughts on authenticity, failure, and focus

Today I was thinking about how sometimes even when you try real hard and do everything right, do all the things that you are supposed to do, sometimes things still don't work out the way you want them to.

And that's ok. Things don't always need to work out the way that I want them to (though occasionally it would be nice... :) And not working out the way I want them to doesn't mean that it wont work out.

When something you want falls through, maybe some of the fault is yours, and maybe not. Ultimately that doesn't matter. What does matter is what you do with it afterwards. How you deal with the disappointment and fear.

So today after doing what it is in my power to do, I am focusing on the hopeful:

a phone call from an old friend, making travel plans, making a wonderful meal, a glass of wine and a good book in the bath, a second chance that is actually used for good, the sound of the mail man bringing today's mail, snapping an amazing photo, eating cold pizza for breakfast, letting go of something not so good to make room for something great.

Have a wonderful weekend friends!

  1. Lovely and wise. We've gone through some strange situations here lately that seem difficult on the surface...but we keep telling ourselves: we can't see the whole picture now. Years later, we'll understand why.

So many times I've fought the painful or uncomfortable situation, when if I'd just relaxed into it, I probably would have eased through it much more quickly and learned the lesson anyway!

Love your hopeful list, especially the letting go.
